Germanna is the site of a frontier fort established in the early eighteenth century, the home of the royal Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood, and a site of agricultural activities and Civil War actions in the nineteenth century. The archaeological activities of the twentieth century are still unfinished in a manner of interpreting the artifacts and features discovered on the site. It is a resource waiting to be fully explored and understood in terms of understanding the Virginia frontier.
